IN a replay of the Southern Cricket League grand final, Notting Hill Brandon Park avenged its loss against Mt Waverley Catholics in the opening round of the Menzies Shield competition on Saturday.

In other games, Glen Waverley’s Leigh Murphy returned the only century with 137 against St James Malvern Valley.

His side also recorded the highest team total for the competition with 5-252 and cruised to a first-innings win.

Trinity, another of last season’s finalists, easily accounted for Oakleigh District Footballers, whose return to the league’s top grade was less than auspicious.

The footballers’ batting collapsed and they were all out for 72, with their opponents recording a 90-run victory.
