TWO elderly Maryborough business partners who admitted to swindling investors out of $45,000 last year were yesterday given suspended jail terms after failing to comply with court orders.

Laurence Hann, 69, of Henty, and Vicki Lowe, 63, of Maryborough, were ordered to take out public notices in The Courier and The Guardian in Swan Hill to inform the public of the outcome of court proceedings brought against them by Consumer Affairs Victoria in Ballarat Magistrates Court last April.

When they failed to do so, Consumer Affairs Victoria brought further proceedings against them.

Yesterday, Magistrate Andrew Cappell sentenced the pair to a 14-day jail term, suspended for two months, on the condition they take out public notices in the two papers.

Originally the pair were ordered to repay the $45,000 to four investors but failed to do so and were declared bankrupt last December.
