MONASH councillors are still unsure whether the council staff will have hand-scans when they clock on and off work.

At a 10-minute emergency meeting last Tuesday, the councillors decided that council staff would be consulted further before a final decision was taken. The councillors will have the last word on the issue.

The City of Monash is considering the adoption of biometric scanners to manage staff rosters at the library.

Monash mayor Greg Male said the council was in the midst of installing an electronic rostering system and in the process of reviewing methods, including biometric scanners, of getting access to it.

Cr Male said the decision would be made only with the blessing of staff and a consultation process was already under way.

“The method to access the system will be done according to what we think is suitable in the consultation and in full agreement with staff.”
